Sarah Steelman has a responsible energy plan to reduce the high price of gas and food that is hurting Missouri families and businesses.

Repeal Missouri’s 10% ethanol mandate. Since the state mandate was implemented in January 2008, gas prices have risen more than 35%. Ethanol is not as efficient as gasoline and is heavily supported by the government. A recent study has pointed out that the state’s ethanol mandate will cost Missourians $1 billion over the next decade.
Create the Missouri Energy Independence Commission to review proposals and allocate funds in an impartial way. Ethanol will be able to compete on a level playing field with other forms of energy such as biomass, wind, and solar energy.
Create a $500 per vehicle tax credit to help Missourians purchase flex fuel vehicles.
Construct an oil refinery in Missouri which will create jobs and expedite the delivery of fuel in our state.
