Sarah Steelman has a responsible energy plan to reduce the high price of gas and food that is hurting Missouri families and businesses.
- Repeal Missouri’s 10% ethanol mandate. Since the state mandate was implemented in January 2008, gas prices have risen more than 35%. Ethanol is not as efficient as gasoline and is heavily supported by the government. A recent study has pointed out that the state’s ethanol mandate will cost Missourians $1 billion over the next decade.

Create the Missouri Energy Independence Commission to review proposals and allocate funds in an impartial way. Ethanol will be able to compete on a level playing field with other forms of energy such as biomass, wind, and solar energy.
Create a $500 per vehicle tax credit to help Missourians purchase flex fuel vehicles.
- Construct an oil refinery in Missouri which will create jobs and expedite the delivery of fuel in our state.
