Education

As State Treasurer, Sarah Steelman is leader in making college more affordable for Missourians. She serves as chair of MOST, Missouri’s 529 College Savings Plan that is recognized nationally by MONEY magazine.

Education doesn’t just mean K-12 anymore. College or trade school is imperative almost without exception in today’s world. As Governor, Sarah Steelman has a plan to help every Missourian achieve the dream of a college education:

  • Enact the Legacy Initiative. The Legacy Initiative will leverage unclaimed property and generate interest which will be used to provide matching grants to families who save in MOST, Missouri’s nationally recognized 529 College Savings Plan.
  • Develop new partnerships between Missouri businesses and our state’s universities, colleges, trade schools, and high schools to prepare Missouri students to compete for the jobs of the future.
  • Implement the Math, Science, Engineering, and Technology (METS) recommendations to enhance education in these key categories.
  • Replace the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) Test with the ACT, a respected college admissions test, at high school levels. ACT test scores can determine where a student attends college and how much it will cost. Replacing the MAP Test with the ACT will expand opportunities for Missourians and re-direct precious resources toward a test that truly matters.
