Action is eloquence. ~William Shakespeare
The pundits and politicians have debated how bellicose our Nations’ leadership should be towards Iran’s brutal repression of its citizens. Instead, the talkers should examine the harm done by United States tax dollars and their (our) complicity in the horrors of the nightly news.
Impossible you say? This is not some conspiracy theory existing alongside fantasies of black helicopters and domestic spying.

It is not what a lawyer tells me I may do; but what humanity, reason, and justice tell me I ought to do. Edmund Burke The more corrupt the republic, the more numerous the laws. ~Tacitus, Annals The greater the number of laws and enactments, the more thieves and robbers there will be. ~Lao-tzu Americans have the right to a judicial system they can trust. . . . Many judges disregard the safety, values, and freedom of law-abiding citizens. . . they make up laws [and] invent new rights. . . . 2000 Republican Platform.

Arlen Specter’s defection resulted in a cacophony, calling for the Republican Party to change; become more centrist, no more conservative; get rid of the right wing extremists, or is it the RINOs? –- basically whatever it takes to keep the folks who drove the car into the ditch, behind the wheel.

If anyone questions why the American people have lost faith in those who represent them in Washington, one need look no further than the front page of Thursday’s (Apr. 23) Wall Street Journal. The above the fold headline reads “Lewis Says U.S. Ordered Silence on Deal” referring to Bank of America’s purchase of Merrill Lynch which triggered the bail out of B of A. Who in the U.S.? None other than Hank Paulson, former Secretary of the Treasury and Ben Bernanke, current Chairman of the Federal Reserve. Mr. Lewis, the CEO of Bank of America. He testified under oath that he was told not to disclose to shareholders of Bank of America the full financial loss of Merrill Lynch Brokerage prior to shareholders voting to approve the purchase of the brokerage. In other words, he was ordered by the U.S. Government to not tell the truth to the shareholders of the company. And, unfortunately, he did what he was told to do.

By Joseph Steelman Joe is the 20 year old son of Sarah Steelman attending the University of Chicago.
The most any of us can hope for in our individual pursuit of truth is that our quest is founded by wisdom and an open mind. There have been few individuals in history that have the intelligence and insight to cut through preconceived “truths” that warp human progress. But these individuals do exist. Scattered throughout history we see the status quo challenged by these intellectual giants, and we are all better off for it. George Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel and John Stuart Mill have left us with a contemporary foundation on which we can discuss human progress. |

It is hard to believe that after over 11 trillion dollars has been injected into the economy through bail out schemes, earmarks, new government programs and projects and after all the incessant discussion about how government is the answer to all our financial woes, that the media, Congress and even the President of the United States have all forgotten the greatest source of energy and solutions to our problems is the people of this great country. The history of our country in itself is a testimonial to the strength and courage of our people. The American Revolution was fought by courageous men and women who loved liberty. The immigrants that came to America were not “yearning to be taken care of by government programs” - they came here dedicated to working hard and “yearning to be free”. The pioneer spirit of Americans who uprooted their families and moved west were not wimps – they wanted a new life for their families. They lived off the land and were willing to make life better for their families by investing every penny, every ounce of sweat, and sometimes sacrificing their own life to build a new home and a new community. They did not sit around and wait for the government to give them an economic stimulus check. The shining city upon the hill that John Winthrop and later Ronald Reagan referred to was not Washington DC. The shining city upon the hill was every town in America where the people care for each other, nurture dreams, create jobs for their communities, participate in their schools, volunteer as coaches for kids and meals on wheels, attend church and keep an eye on their neighbors to make sure they are cared for and safe.
